Description:
Across the country, at the state and federal level, free speech is being attacked under the guise of campaign finance "reform." Want to do something about it? The Center for Competitive Politics (CCP) is seeking a Staff Attorney to join our team and help us fight political speech regulation.
Institutional Background:
CCP is a non-profit organization founded in 2005 by former FEC Chairman Bradley A. Smith, professor of law at Capital University Law School and of counsel to Vorys, Sater, Seymour, and Pease, and Stephen M. Hoersting, campaign finance attorney and former general counsel to the National Republican Senatorial Committee. CCP's mission, through legal briefs, studies, historical and constitutional analyses, and media communication, is to educate the public on the actual effects of money in politics, and the benefits of a more free and competitive electoral process.
Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney's responsibilities will include:
-Researching and writing policy primers, op-eds, and blog posts on various topics of campaign finance regulation, the First Amendment, and political speech
-Writing and editing amicus briefs
-Writing comments on pending Federal Election Commission rulemakings, advisory opinions, and policy statements
-Responding to media inquiries on issues of campaign finance regulation
Background and skills:
The ideal candidate will be an attorney with 0-2 years of experience. The candidate should have excellent writing and interpersonal skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines independently of supervision, and an ideological/nonpartisan commitment to the robust protection of the First Amendment and political speech. Entrepreneurship and excellent interpersonal skills are also required.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and writing sample to:
