File Under: Lobbying Regulation

Yesterday was Tuesday which meant it was time for another attack on lobbyists - those people who dare to represent the varied interests of the American people in Washington.

This time it was the Boston Globe reporting Barack Obama's pledge in New Hampshire to further regulate lobbyists.  But out in Iowa, emerging candidate Bill Richardson was singing a different tune.

While Obama was repeating the tired rhetoric that lobbyists don't represent "real Americans", Governor Richardson was recognizing the important role of lobbyists.  Richardson said, "The unions have lobbyists in Washington, I take money from them. Nurses, environmentalists, senior citizens."

Last month, Richardson also acknowledged that refusing to take money from lobbyists was "silly" and the other candidates were simply "sucking up to you...with slogans that get you cheering."
