The Hotline reports on a new fundraising program being rolled out by Barack Obama's presidential campaign.
The program encourages individuals to contribute money by knowing that their donation will be matched by another supporter who agreed to match that amount.
According to Obama campaign manager David Plouffe, the program is "a one-to-one, supporter-to-supporter effort. If you make a donation, you'll be matched up with a real person -- another supporter who has put their faith in you. And you'll be able to read a note from them and send a response."
Hotline comments "Talk about the politics of bringing people together.... soul mates find love through the Obama giving program, elderly IA pig farmer gets email from Greenpeace activist, the two meet and share veggie burger...."
Hotline's comment, while perhaps a bit droll, reinforces an important concept: People who contribute to political campaigns do so because they share similar interests and concerns.
